How long do memecoin pumps last?

Finding runners earlyGoing deeper6 min readOctober 12, 2026

Short answer The first spike is over in hours, but the real runners take days. On Robinhood Chain the first pump peaked a median 0.9 hours after crossing $1M (196 tokens, 13 August to 12 October 2026), while the 60 tokens that went 10x from roughly mid-July to mid-September 2026 took a median 36 hours to their second leg and about 9.4 days to their peak.

A common rule says a memecoin pump is done within four to six hours, or within three or four days at most, and that if you missed it you should move on. We checked how long moves actually last in our own stored data for Robinhood Chain and Solana. Each section below names the chain, the sample and the dates it covers. The answer depends on which move you mean. The first spike is short. The moves that make a token a runner are much longer than the rule says.

The first spike is over in hours

The first pump after a token gets attention is fast, and so is the pullback.

  • Robinhood Chain, first pump to $1M. Of 196 tokens first seen under $500K that later crossed $1M, between 13 August and 12 October 2026, the first pump peaked a median 0.9 hours after crossing $1M. The median first peak was $1.74M.
  • The pullback. After a 3x pump, price came back to the 0.618 level a median 2.6 hours after the high on Robinhood Chain (719 pumps, 13 August to 12 October 2026) and 0.5 hours on Solana (1,537 pumps, 15 September to 12 October 2026).

So in these samples the rule is right about the first spike. The first move was measured in hours, and the giveback started soon after. The golden zone lesson shows what happened to people who bought that first pullback.

The runners took days

The tokens that went on to 10x looked nothing like a four-hour pump. We looked at the 60 Robinhood Chain tokens that went 10x in the 60 days to 13 September 2026 (roughly mid-July to mid-September) and asked when they made their move. They doubled off their own recent low, on volume, a median 36 hours after we first saw them. They reached their peak a median of about 9.4 days after first sighting.

That is the gap the rule misses. Half of these 60 runners had not started their second leg 36 hours after we first saw them, and half had not peaked after nine days. A trader who treats every token as done after six hours or three days would have dropped at least half of them before their peak.

It also changes how you look for them. A 10x that takes days to build gives you time to check the token before you buy. You do not have to be first. You have to be early on the second move.

Giving it all back is faster than the run

Speed runs in both directions. After a token freshly crossed a market cap level, here is how often it lost half its value. Robinhood Chain covers 13 August to 12 October 2026, and Solana covers 15 September to 12 October 2026:

Chain and levelTokensHalved within 24 hoursHalved within 7 days
Robinhood Chain, $1M16447.0%68.3%
Robinhood Chain, $5M8451.2%75.0%
Robinhood Chain, $10M4841.7%83.3%
Solana, $1M20468.1%82.4%
Solana, $5M3655.6%77.8%

On Robinhood Chain, the 10x runners took a median of about 9.4 days to peak, while 41.7-51.2% of tokens that freshly crossed $1M, $5M or $10M lost half their value within 24 hours. The two figures come from different samples, but together they say a plan for the exit is needed before the buy. The take-profit lesson covers stops and selling in slices.

How long should you hold?

In this test the shorter hold won, even when the entry was perfect. On Robinhood Chain, from 13 August to 12 October 2026, we tested buying the low after a token's first pump to $1M (196 tokens), with hindsight picking the exact low:

  • Held 24 hours: closed above entry 55.2% of the time, median +4.4%.
  • Held 72 hours: median -100%, because so many tokens died in the extra two days.
  • Held 7 days: worse at every entry we tried.

This looks like it contradicts the runners section. It does not. Most tokens in this test were not runners: held 72 hours, the median one went to zero. Holding a token that is not a runner is how a gain becomes a loss. Take profit on the first move, keep a small slice for the second, and protect that slice with a stop.

Coming back to the old high takes time too

If a token falls from its high, how long until it gets back there, if it ever does? We took tokens that fell 30% or 50% from a high of at least $100K and timed the ones that returned (Robinhood Chain 13 August to 12 October 2026, Solana 15 September to 12 October 2026).

  • On Robinhood Chain the median return took 5.6 to 20.2 hours. After a 30% drop it was 5.6-5.7 hours whatever the size of the token. After a 50% drop it was longer: 9.7 hours from a $100K-1M high and 20.2 hours from a $1M-plus high.
  • On Solana it was 0.5 to 3.8 hours.
  • Only 18-54% of tokens came back at all, depending on the chain, the size and the drop.

A token below its high is not "done" on a clock. In seven of the eight groups we timed, most tokens never returned. On Robinhood Chain, the ones that did could take most of a day.

Does the time of day matter?

Barely. We checked whether the alerts our lanes sent from 24 August to 5 October 2026 did better during US market hours than at other times, graded on how often the token reached 2x within seven days. The table shows the raw rates:

Session (UTC)Robinhood Chain sendsReached 2xSolana sendsReached 2x
Asia, 00:00 to 07:0014225.4%64821.1%
Europe, 07:00 to 13:3010415.4%51214.6%
US market hours, 13:30 to 20:0024520.8%69717.1%
US evening, 20:00 to 24:0012021.7%45417.2%

US hours were not better. If anything, Asia hours were slightly better and Europe hours slightly worse, on both chains, and the differences are small. Comparing each alert with the average for its own lane points the same way: Asia +3.8 points on Robinhood Chain and +3.6 on Solana, Europe -6.9 and -3.8. Weekdays and weekends were about the same: 21.0% against 21.5% on Robinhood Chain, 17.6% against 18.0% on Solana. Do not wait for the US open.

What this does not tell you

  • The runner timing comes from 60 Robinhood Chain tokens, roughly mid-July to mid-September 2026, measured from first sighting, which is when our trackers saw the token, not when it launched. It says nothing about Solana.
  • Our Robinhood Chain readings are about 30 minutes apart, so peaks come out a little low and short spikes are missed.
  • The Solana tick history covers 27 days; the Robinhood Chain history covers about 60.
  • A median is the middle case: half the runners were faster than these times and half were slower.

Open Range Finder, the board for Robinhood Chain tokens that held a tight band for days and then broke out. It is built for the slower moves. On any token, the Scanner answers "Am I early?" with how far the token has run from launch, from its peak, and from where PumpPill first logged it.
